Contractor and creative sectors development to headline South Business Fair

The City's premier business exhibition, the Durban Business Fair (DBF), is bringing back its regional feature to be hosted in the south at KwaMnyandu Shopping Centre, uMlazi, from 24 to 26 June.

The fair, which was put on hold due to the COVID-19 outbreak, makes a welcome return this year, with the South Regional Fair serving as a build-up event of the main DBF later in the year.

About 100 products will be showcased at the South Regional Fair to assist entrepreneurs to generate income and build possible partnerships while being empowered through seminars.

The first day of the South Fair will feature business exhibitions running simultaneously with the Contractor Development Indaba to be addressed, among others, by the Deputy Minister of the Department of Small Business Development, Sdumo Dlamini. Deputy Minister Dlamini will highlight available opportunities within the department.

Other key focus areas to be discussed include funding opportunities presented by the Small Enterprise Finance Agency as well as opportunities and capacitation for emerging contractors presented by representatives from the Construction Industry Development Board, National Home Builders Registration Council, South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors and the South African National Roads Agency Limited.

Conversations with women in construction will be hosted under the theme: 'Transformation in the Built Environment and organised approach and collaboration of local business for rebuilding and recovery for rural and township revitalisation’.

The Business Indaba, themed 'Youth Empowerment' to be held on 25 June will present opportunities such as franchising, innovation, and partnership as a driver for township economic development, brand building and career positioning.

On the last day of the fair, the Creative Industry Indaba will share insights and opportunities in the film and television industry. Experienced industry role players such as casting directors, financiers, and actors will be onsite leading a Youth and Film panel discussion as well as an open session for filmmakers.

Digital marketing skills will be transferred over the three days of the fair where well-known South African make-up artist Lwazi Blose, popularly known as 'Diva Cadach', will lead the Make-Up and Beauty sessions from 24 to 25 June. Flavours of Durban will continue to offer culinary skills while exposing local talent and businesses.

Businesses can RSVP to Mnqobi Mthethwa on 031 266 9937, email: admin@lomes.co.za, or WhatsApp 079 136 6909.
